This paper provides an overview of the relationship between population trends and the performance of the labor market. The main conclusion drawn is that, despite the high degree of rigidity of real wages and thebehavior of migratory flows that characterize the Spanish labor market, which tend to signify that changes in the labor supply have lasting effects on the rate of unemployment, at the aggregate level it cannot be affirmed that the "main cause" of unemployment in Spain is the "excessive growth" of the work force.
