El turismo: un sector clave en la economía española

El turismo sigue siendo uno de los puntales básicos de la economía española. Durante varias décadas ha jugado un papel clave en el crecimiento español y, aunque atraviesa una fase más compleja y con algunos problemas estructurales, no cabe duda de que seguirá siendo un sector fundamental para la recuperación económica. Este artículo aporta nuevos elementos para evaluar el papel de las actividades vinculadas al turismo en España. Analiza la demanda turística, lo que obliga a profundizar en su composición así como en la oferta turística del país, la creación de empleo y la influencia de estas actividades en la productividad. Estudia también el peso del turismo en el saldo de la balanza comercial. Todo ello permite extraer algunas conclusiones que ayudan a definir el peso del sector en la economía española actual.

Tourism continues to be one of the mains-tays of the Spanish economy. Over several decades it has played a key role in Spanish growth and, although it is going through a more complicated phase with a number of structural problems, there is no doubt that it will continue to be a key sector for economic recovery. This article offers new elements for assessing the role of the activities linked to tourism in Spain. It analyses tourist demand, which calls for in- depth examination of the composition of the country's tourist supply and demand, the job creation, and the influence of tourist activities on productivity. It also studies the share of tourism in the balance of trade. All this enables us to draw some conclusions that will help to define the importance of the sector in the current Spanish economy.
