Este artículo se refiere al sistema de gestión de losrecursos pesqueros comunitarios. Se describen los distintos reglamentos que lo constituyen y su justificación, se analizan sus ventajas e inconvenientes y se indican las iniciativas de la Comisión Europea para mejorar el sistema. Se describen los mecanismos de aprobación de los reglamentos y su incidencia en lagestión de los recursos. Se consideran también algunos de los retos a los que la gestión pesquera deberá hacer frente en los próximos años. El artículo hace especial hincapié en la necesidad de que los distintos instrumentos degestión constituyan un paquete coordinado y coherentede medidas.

In this paper the management system for the fisheries resources of the community is discussed. There is an outline of the different rules and regulations which constitute it and its justification; its advantages and disadvantages are also analysed, and the European Commission initiatives to improve the system are pointed out. In this paper the mechanisms needed topass the regulation are described as well as their impact on the management of resources. Moreover, it goeson to consider some of the challenges the management of fisheries will have to face in the near future. Finally the paper emphasises the need for the chosen management instruments to constitute a well coordinated and coherent set of measures.
