Spanish economic forecasts for 2022-2023

Despite a weak start to the year and headwinds from high energy prices and double-digit inflation, Spain’s prospects for the next few months remain favourable. However, after the end of the tourism season, the loss of consumers´ purchasing power along with more restrictive financial conditions and geopolitical risks mean growth is expected to slow considerably from the end of 2022.

Conjunctural indicators for the Eurozone in May 2022

The euro-zone economy started 2022 on a weak note but the improving health situation suggests that growth will pick up over the rest of the quarter. The PMI-HIS Markit Composite output index of the Eurozone in January reached 52,3. Pointing to the weakest increase in business activity since the headline index moved back into growth territory last March.

The impact of the COVID-19 crisis on businesses and the self-employed

The COVID-19 crisis prompted a slowdown in business creation across all the main legal
forms of incorporation, but underpinned a continuation of a trend observed even prior to the
onset of the pandemic– a shift away from limited liability companies to individuals. In order
to tackle the deterioration in business creation dynamics as a result of the COVID crisis, it
will be necessary to take measures to foster business creation and entrepreneurship.

Financial digitalisation in Spain in the wake of the pandemic: Assessing the impact


The pandemic has accelerated the push towards digitalisation in Spain on multiple fronts. This
trend has been particularly significant within the financial arena, with Spaniards increasing
