La reforma estructural de las cajas de ahorros abre interrogantes no sólo sobre el futuro de su actividad financiera, sino también sobre el de su actividad tradicional de lucha contra la exclusión financiera y de apoyo a la cultura y al bienestar de la sociedad a través de su Obra Social. El artículo analiza la importancia de ésta a lo largo de los últimos años, con especial atención al último decenio. Se destaca la intensidad de su caída desde el comienzo de la gran recesión y se analizan las lúgubres perspectivas financieras para los próximos años.

The structural reform of the savings banks not only raises questions about the future of its financial activity, but also that of its traditional fight against financial exclusion and support for culture and the welfare of society through its social work. The article discusses the importatnce of this over recent years with special attention to the last decade. It highlights the intensity of its fall from the beginning of the current recession and discusses the gloomy financial outlook for the coming years.
