Los proyectos portuarios producen beneficios y costes sociales que una vez identificados y cuantificados permiten obtener una cifra de rentabilidad social o un rango en el que dicha rentabilidad puede oscilar con sus probabilidades correspondientes. En este trabajo se presentan los elementos básicos del análisis coste-beneficio de una inversión portuaria real. El objetivo no es determinar si dicho proyecto, la ampliación del puerto de Sagunto, es socialmente rentable, sino ilustrar la metodología utilizando los datos disponibles y explicando los supuestos y los pasos que hay que dar para obtener el beneficio social neto del proyecto.

Investment in port projects generates social benefits and costs that, once identified and quantified, allow obtaining an estimate of their social profitability or a range within which such profitability may vary with its corresponding probabilities. In this work the basic elements of cost-benefit analysis for an actual real port investment are presented. The aim is not to determine whether this project, the enlargement of Sagunto Port, is socially profitable, but to illustrate the methodology by using available data and explaining the assumptions and different steps that are needed to obtain the project net social benefit.
