Las implicaciones macroeconómicas y sobre el sector bancario de la política monetaria del BCE

Este artículo revisa brevemente la actuación del BCE desde mediados de 2014, cuando la autoridad monetaria inició una nueva fase de política monetaria expansiva. Además de adentrarse en el terreno de los tipos de interés negativos, el BCE desplegó otras medidas no convencionales como la expansión de su balance y la guía de expectativas (forward guidance) para superar las restricciones derivadas de la proximidad de los tipos de interés oficiales a su cota inferior efectiva. Asimismo, se ilustra su transmisión efectiva a las condiciones financieras, el crecimiento económico y la inflación en el área del euro. Finalmente, se discute la posible repercusión de la política monetaria expansiva sobre la situación financiera del sector bancario.

This article briefly reviews the ECB’s action since mid–2014, when the monetary authority embarked on a new expansionary phase. In addition to introducing a negative interest rates, the ECB deployed other non– conventional measures like the expansion of its balance sheet and introduction of foward guidance to overcome the restrictions arising from the proximity of official interest rates to their effective zero lower bound. Additionally, the article shows the effective transmission of monetary policy to the financial conditions, economic growth and inflation in the euro area. Finally, the article discusses the potential implications of the expansionary monetary policy for the banking sector.
